Greetings, stranger. I am Benthos, the Necroangler. Help me complete my research on the natural… and unnatural… fish found in the waters of the Isle of the Dead and I will give you my special fishing rod.

From the last samples that you brought me, I think I might be on the verge of discovering a rare from of parasite that only infects undead sealife, but I need a rare Silverback Gupper to finish my work…

Yes! See here? The parasite breeds in the gills of species of Gupper. It is completely harmless to the living fish but when it matures it leaves the gills and seeks out undead hosts to feed on. It feeds on necrotic energy!

My work is almost complete. I will need to see how these necrotic parasites affect the body. Isle of the Dead is home to a horrendous fish that mimics flesh. I can use these to study the effects of the parasites. Bring me three of them and I will be able to complete my work.

The dark magics that surround this Isle have had a strange effect on the aquatic life here. They swim as if possessed by some sort of ghostly force. Most people are horrified, but I am curious as to if there is truly a dark origin to these rumors.

As you know, the waters around the Isle of the Dead is quite acidic. It's a marvel that any living (or un-living as it work) creature can survive for long at all. I'm sure you've noticed a tingling feeling in your feet when you've dipped your toes in? I would like to study the further effects that these waters have long term. Of course I would never presume to offer you up to volunteer… unless?

Fascinating… This Skullen's flesh is burned right through to its skull. Yet the bone has developed a coating that helps protect the rest of the fish from the acidic waters of the Isle.

Previously, you assisted me in my research by bringing me some Muscles. These gross, fleshy fish mimic the flesh of the living. The dark waters of Isle of the Dead cause them to react and twitch in ways that make them seem out of this world. Shall we find out what makes them… twitch?

Aha! Have you noticed? All of these fish that you have brought me have had remnants of… something- attached to them! Could this be the secret?

A Permanent Attachment

Whatever has attached itself to these fish must be the source of the power and keeping them animated. Is this a symbiotic relationship? Or a parasitic one?

Intriguing! These Shadow Lampreys must be feeding on the life forces of these fish, yet providing them with enough energy to continue moving about the waters. I will take these back with me for further study.
Please take these with you as a token of my gratitude. They still hold residual energies from the Isle but they shouldn't harm you… much.
